Best Albums 2013 – #12-#11

Ólafur Arnalds - For Now I Am Winter

This is by far my find of the year. I had no idea who Olafur Arnalds was, but I am so glad that I stumbled upon him at some point this year. I love ambient music, and for those who enjoy “The Album Leaf” you will love Arnalds music. The texture and progression are great. This is typically the music I write to, and for me it doesn’t get better than this album. I really appreciated the use of strings throughout the record.

Favorite Songs:

– Brim

– For Now I Am Winter

– Reclaim

Drake - Nothing Was The Same

I ran a half marathon and then a marathon this year, and hip-hop tends to get me going. Well, I have never been a Drake fan, but with all my running, it seemed Drake kept me running better than anyone else. So when his new record came out I figured I would give it a legitimate chance of getting on this list. I was actually really surprised because I found the album to be more than just motivational running music, but musically interesting and creative. It is not my favorite hip-hop record of the year, but it a good record.

Favorite Songs:

Obviously I like the hits on this record “Started From The Bottom” and “Hold On, We’re Going Home” but I am going to list three other songs as my favorites.

– Furthest Thing

– 305 To My City

– Too Much
